Board of Directors
Our Mission: To provide vocational training and employment services to individuals with developmental disabilities in order to increase self worth, promote independence and prepare them to work as valued employees in the community.
The Board is responsible for:
- Determining how to carry out the mission of OBI through long and short range planning, review and evaluation
- Adopting an annual budget and providing fiscal oversight
- Raising funds in support of OBI
- Recruiting, orienting and developing Board members
- Hiring and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director
- Evaluating its performance and the overall performance of the organization in achieving its mission (Board Self Evaluation)
- Establishing policies for the effective management of the organization
Responsibilities of the Directors:
- Understand and promote OBI's Mission
- Be familiar with OBI's program and operations
- Be a working member of at least one Board committee
- Participate in resource development and fundraising
- Thank donors for their support
- Make an unrestricted annual gift to Opportunity Builders
- Contribute a gift to the Capital Campaign, when solicited
- Assist in Board membership development
- Advocacy
- Community education
- Review Board meeting materials before the meeting
- Identify any potential conflicts of interest
